Biosketch


Dr. Maria Kolailat is    an associate professor in the Department of Public Health at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) and the co-director of the Center for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and Obesity Prevention. She received her DrPH in Community Health Sciences with a minor in Biostatistics from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Master in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She is also a certified Statistical Analysis System (SAS) programmer. Dr. Koleilat    is a trained public health nutritionist with fifteen years of experience conducting research focusing on the interplay of early-life risks and environmental factors in the etiology of obesity among participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Specifically, her past (USDA-funded study) and current research projects focus on helping WIC mothers avoid excessive gestational weight gain and postpartum weight retention. Dr. Koleilat    is the chair of the Community and Public Health Nutrition Research Interest Section (RIS) at the American Society for Nutrition and serves as co-editor of the Californian Journal of Health Promotion. Dr. Koleilat    is also a language enthusiast; she speaks English, French, Spanish, and Arabic.
